Date on cheques

If you are still to enter the February show, paying by cheque. Can I please respectfully ask you to make sure you put the correct year in the date. So early into the new year it's easily done to put the previous one and although I can add the date if it has been left off, I'm not certain I can alter and initial anything the payee has written.
